Avoid the Scale to Lose Weight

We are going to discuss the problems with weighing yourself each week and finish up with #BYOBT workout challenge.

This week’s Be Your Own Boss in Health and Fitness tip is: ‘Avoid the Scale to Lose Weight’. So many people are concerned with weight these days they miss their intruding body fat which can be detrimental to health. Have you ever heard the term, skinny fat? This means that a person can be thin in looks, small in weight yet the body contains a high amount of fat. Being in good health is not about looking the same as the person next to you, the person in the magazine nor the person on TV. If that is your only goal, trust me, you will never be satisfied but will go through extreme measures to get a look that is temporary. It is okay to have a goal to look a certain way as long as it is with intent to be healthy and is done the right way which is not by starving yourself, crash dieting or sweating out all the body’s nutrients which deplete the muscle. The effects of this are:

  1. You may lose weight on the scale but gain more fat causing clothes to hug you in the wrong places.
  2. The less muscle you have the lower your resting metabolism is going to be.
  3. Weighing yourself each week can give temporary enjoyment but the problem with wanting to please the scale is, you lose yourself in the process.

Finally focus living a healthier lifestyle and trust that the look will come with time. This way you don’t have to worry about the girl or guy next door because the right one appreciates your efforts and works with you. Then you can have that Meko the Boss glow when DJ Sixth Sense put a ring on it on Fox 5 DC, knowing that you are looking like the best you, and that is a much better feeling walking down the aisle congratulations you two!

This week’s #BYOBT workout challenge is cardiovascular interval training. This means break up your session into segments walk the first two minutes jog one minute and run for thirty seconds repeat during the duration of your session. Do this twice this week for at least 45 minutes and watch your cardio fly by!
