Eat Fat It’s Good For You

Hi this is Edisha with http://www.byobtraining.com. We are going to discuss the benefits of fat in your diet and finish with #BYOBT workout challenge!

This week’s Be Your Own Boss in Health and Fitness Tip is: Eat Fat; it’s good for you! Have you ever tried to get fat out of your diet but found that you continued to see unwanted weight gain? Here’s the thing: our bodies make nonessential fats and we must take in a higher amount essential fats for transport of nutrients, development of brain tissue, normal heart functioning and for energy! What? What do you think is in breast milk just all the nutrients from mommies nine months of cravings right? Eh! The World Health Organization recommends exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of life for your baby to receive not just your vitamins and minerals but for the baby to also receive essential fat that his or her little body cannot produce. Now when I say eat fat I’m not talking a bunch of trans-fat that comes from fried food, vegetable shortening and pork lard which increases your LDL cholesterol or bad cholesterol and causes increased risk of heart attack and coronary heart disease. I’m talking trans-fats that occur naturally in beef and dairy products. What are some other sources of healthy fats? Well, all of you who ate pumpkin pie last week should lay your worries to rest! One source of essential fatty acids is pumpkin seeds, others are: walnuts, fish, shellfish, sunflower seeds, leafy vegetables, flaxseed, and oils you can cook with such as canola and sunflower oil. #BYOBT Fun Fact: Did you know vegetable oil is an alternative fuel for diesel engines? To reduce risk of unwanted trans-fat in your food from cooking you may also substitute vegetable oil with coconut oil.

This week’s #BYOBT workout challenge:  Push up! Do pushups non-stop for 1 minute at a time! This means do as many as you can for 60 seconds then rest just one minute, repeat. Complete 4 sets of 1 minute push ups.  If you would like to see me doing push ups, Facebook page:  BYOBTraining.
