#BYOBT – B e Your Own Boss in Health and Fitness ‘Meaningful Mondays’ Tip

This week’s Be Your Own Boss in Health and Fitness tips is:

Work the abs just like any other muscle group, allowing for rest and recovery of the muscles.

Everybody wants to have as my clients quote, “shirt off sexy” abs right? Here is a good rule of thumb on how you can go about getting them. Start with your diet. The more green leafy vegetables and protein you eat plus the more water that you drink the more likely you are to see your abdominals pop! Our abs make up part of our core which allows for the body’s balance and stability, being that it is the core of the body’s responsibility to keep us erect it’s safe to say a walking person’s  abs are already really strong and defined. The only reasons to do exercises for the abdomen are to increase core strength and to build more muscle for the reduction of fat in the area which by the way cannot be obtained without proper recovery.

Being able to walk upright, to exercise efficiently and to perform athletic activity requires constant use of the abs; therefore, when doing exercises to aid in losing fat in the mid-section, persons should be mindful not to exceed 2 to 3 times of strict focus on them per week.

This week’s BYOBT workout challenge is:

Sumo Squat Jumps

Starting position:

Stand up tall with feet hip width apart with hands either clasped in front of your chest or on your hips

Quickly jump feet to the out sides of your body with toes pointed forward landing feet on the ground in squat position butt low resembling sitting on a chair then jump up while bringing feet back to hip width stance. Repeat. 4 sets of 24

For advanced athletes you may perform this exercise in between each set of leg press while holding a medicine ball or weight in your hands.
